Abstract : Preliminary results are given on the cycling of nickel-zinc cells and on the effect of circulating electrolyte on the behavior of the zinc electrode. When one layer of separator is used, the nickel-zinc cells give longer cycle life than similarly constructed silver-zinc cells. There is appreciable gassing at the nickel electrode during charge and water must be added to the electrolyte during cycling. Circulating the KOH electrolyte produced no improved behavior of the zinc electrode under the conditions studied. This is partly due to the fact that in order to circulate the electrolyte the spacing between the electrodes must be greater. (Author)
