Abstract : The objective of this program is the development of a highly stable, compact, 1/4 watt L-band solid state radiosonde. It was decided to concentrate the major part of the remaining effort on dual cylindrical coaxial cavity oscillators. A power output of 330 mW was obtained with 18.2% efficiency from an aluminum dual coaxial cavity oscillator. A pulling figure of 4.7 was measured but by decoupling the output, the pulling figure was reduced to 2.8 MHz with a power output of 206 mW. A Miniaturized 1.2 cu. in. dual coaxial cavity oscillator was constructed and tested. Silver plated brass was used to simplify construction. A power output of 235 mW was obtained with 13.7% efficiency. The frequency variation over the -70 to +75 C temperature range was 1 MHz. A stripline oscillator was constructed which gives 200 mW with 10% efficiency and a pulling figure of 6 MHz. (Author)
