Abstract : The purpose of this work is to investigate the infrared spectra of saturated aliphatic nitriles in the cesium bromide region. This region of the spectrum is especially sensitive to slight changes in molecular structure since the bands are often due to bending modes involving the carbon skeleton. Consequently, the analyst may be able to use these spectra to characterize aliphatic nitriles in a more specific manner than can be done in the NaCl region.
