Abstract : The rate of dissociation of HF in Argon was measured using infrared absorption of the transition of the 2.5 microns absorption band of HF in a shock tube behind reflected shock waves. High-speed chopping (60 kcps) was used to differentiate between absorbed and emitted radiation. Computer programs allowed correction for HF line (pressure) broadening as a function of temperature and total pressure and for HF association.
