Abstract : A small-signal theory of gap coupling of microwaves to a plasma column with an electron beam at its center is developed. Electronic load admittance of the beam-plasma system, referred to the gap, is computed. Both the inductive-medium and the traveling-wave interactions are considered. The inductive-medium regime is found to have enhanced coupling under conditions where high gain occurs in the beam-plasma interaction. The results computed are compared with the other computations and found to agree with experiments reported earlier. (Author)
