Abstract : An electronic timer system consisting of a 2-channel timer and a setting unit is described. The timer and setting unit are connected either by a 2- or 3-wire link or by a 2-way radio link. The timer system is settable from 1 to 20,000 sec in 1-msec increments. The frequency source is a crystal-controlled oscillator, accurate to + or -2.5 in 10 to the 7th power over a voltage range of 21- to 31-V dc, a temperature range of 0 to 60 C, and a shock and vibration environment of a missile launch. The dual-channel timer was breadboarded oversize for teaching use, but the projected size and weight are less than 100 cu in. and 5 lb. The setting unit sets and monitors the timer; for each command sent to the timer, an acknowledgement signal must be returned or the setting procedure stops and an error light flashes on.
