Abstract : A preliminary study has been conducted of three selected areas pertinent to analysis of complex shock time history records. The first study results in a proposed method for establishing a high frequency cutoff for shock spectrum computation using as a criteria, the peak equivalent static acceleration necessary to produce yielding in simple structural elements of varying natural frequencies. The second study investigates the practical problems which are encountered in utilizing the digital computer to perform an inverse Fourier transformation and obtain the shock time history of simple shocks from Fourier spectra. Presented are the effect on the inverse transformation of varying the digitizing detail and frequency limits of the Fourier spectrum. The third study results in a proposed method of 'best fit' whereby the shock spectrum of a terminal peak sawtooth shock pulse is used to define a laboratory shock test for yield conditions. (Author)
