Abstract : A series of games were conducted, employing a pre-strike crisis scenario with participants who were representative of selected segments of the public (banker, fireman, supermarket manager, businessman, cab driver, mechanic, teachers, housewives, etc.). During each period of each game, the players were interviewed about their reactions and attitudes. The questions asked were minimally structured, to provide the maximum latitude in responses. Wherever possible, the questions were phrased to elicit answers about others: projections of players' reactions in the framework of their backgrounds. The objective of these games was to involve the players in the simulated situation while retaining objectivity for generalized responses. Some interaction between players was permitted to increase involvement in the game. The results of these games are intended to assist planners by providing some insight into likely public response during this kind of crisis. (Author)
