Abstract : A field test was made to determine whether certain specialized equipment would improve the capability of medical personnel to search for and locate battlefield casualties. This equipment included a battle casualty locating system (BACALOC), short range helmet radios (AN/PRC-34), and infrared T6A binoculars. Searches for casualties were made by aid-evacuation teams with and without the special equipment, and times to locate were compared. These devices, as tested, did not generally or materially assist aid-evacuation teams except when making search at night in open terrain. Under these conditions, search times improved when the equipment was employed. (Author)
