Abstract : FORMAT II (FORtran Matris Abstraction technique) is a digital computer program/system written entirely in Fortran IV. The system permits easy implementation of matrix operations on large order (i.e., 2000) matrices by direct coding of these operations in simple instruction statements similar to Fortran coding. The matrix operations available in the FORMAT II system include most of the basic matrix operations (e.g., add, multiply, etc.), several special matrix operations (e.g., solution of equations), and several control operations (e.g., print matrices, save matrices, conditional if test). Also, up to nine other operations may be easily and temporarily added to the system. Other features of the FORMAT II system include the capability of inputing matrices via cards and automatic allocation of all matrices to available data sets. (Author)
