Abstract : The use of thin aluminum and titanium foils, as well as 0.5 mil molybdenum, was examined as substrate materials for CdTe films. Substantial reduction in cell weight was achieved with the successful use of the 0.5 mil molybdenum. The consequences of a reduced CdTe film thickness (5-7 microns) was examined. Cell quality, particularly junction leakage conductance, has been found to depend critically upon substrate pretreatments. The formation of P-N junctions by surface doping with phosphorus has been investigated.
