Abstract : Work continued on each of the following principal tasks: Theoretical and Experimental Electromagnetic Properties of Obstacles, Improved Sensor Techniques, Experimental Program, Theoretical and Experimental Electromagnetic Properties of Obstacles. A detailed study of the radar returns from cables at millimeter wavelengths is continued with the inclusion of realistic antenna patterns. It is shown that for a radar system with a high gain, low side lobe antenna, the echo voltage from a cable exhibits an oscillatory behavior when the incident angle is varied. The position of the nulls is practically independent of the frequency of operation. The only observed change in the position of nulls is due to the change of antenna beamwidth. The change is due to an increase of null separation as the beamwidth is increased. In view of the importance attached to the appearance of the nulls, the possibility of using a variable beamwidth antenna should be explored.
