Abstract : Study and investigation was performed on the feasibility of a Solid State UHF Repeater/Amplifier. The goals set forth for the study program were an effective receiver sensitivity of one microvolt, an effective radiated power (ERP) of one watt, a dynamic range of 70 dB, retransmission within the same 50 KHz P-band channel as the received signal, operational capability over the entire 3500 channels of P-band, and the maximum weight of five points including antenna(s). Equipment limitations imposed by antennas, frequency errors, filters, integrated circuits, and frequency synthesizers were considered as a part of the study program. The study also included considerations of signal acquisition and tracking modulation compatibility, and protection of the receiver front end from desensitization by the retransmitted signal. The results of these several areas of study were used to design a configuration for the repeater amplifier that would satisfy the stated goals. (Author)
