Abstract : The effects of air and hydrogen property variations on laminar flow and heat transfer in the entrance region of a parallel isothermal plate channel are investigated. The boundary layer equations are non-dimensionalized, expressed in natural and stream function coordinates, and solved in finite difference form by numerical methods. Accuracy and ease of solution are compared for the two coordinate systems. Flow and heat transfer characteristics are discussed. Finally, a method of correlating mean Nusselt number is developed which allows determination of heat transfer results within engineering accuracy for a variety of temperature conditions in the range from 500R to 3000R.
