Abstract : The SIGMALOG Theater POL Model is one of the logistics models of the SIGMALOG System developed by RAC for the DCSLOG of the US Army. This system is a set of computerized models for determining various logistic implications of a given theater force structure. The SIGMALOG POL Model is concerned with calculating the POL requirements for aircraft, vehicles, and equipment associated with the TOE units of a given force structure. The model considers five categories of POL: diesel fuel, motor gasoline, aviation gasoline, jet fuel, and packaged POL products. The model calculates for each of the POL categories the consumption requirements in various regions of a theater during specified time periods. The first four of these categories are termed 'bulk POL products. The consumption of bulk POL products is calculated in short tons, gallons, or barrels, according to the user's request. The consumption of packaged products is always calculated in short tons. The total consumption of each POL category is also calculated for a region over all time periods and for all regions during each time period. The computer program for the model is written in FORTRAN IV for the IBM 7044 computer. The model relates the consumption of POL to both environmental conditions and operational conditions. The environmental conditions considered are season of the year, altitude, and temperature. The operational conditions considered include the hours per day or miles per day of operation for aircraft, vehicles, and equipment. (Author)
