Abstract : Complete blood counts were performed periodically for 60 days on subjects exposed total-body to pulsed fission-spectrum neutron radiation. Thirty-two subjects were exposed to 4 different doses bilaterally, and forty were exposed to 5 doses given to the right side. Platelet counts of those exposed bilaterally were somewhat dose related; the higher the dose, the greater the count depression and the greater the subsequent overshoot of pre-irradiation level. Lymphocyte counts within the first 3 post-irradiation days were more greatly depressed in the subjects irradiated on the right side only. This finding might be related to the blood volume contained in the liver.
