Abstract : The report presents the theory, design, and results of two useful logarithmic video amplification techniques utilizing sequential current summation. The first circuit is for single polarity inputs, the second can handle dual polarity inputs. This circuit is capable of logarithmic action from d.c. to frequencies in excess of 30 MHz. Both log amplifier techniques are analyzed on a digital computer and examples are presented to validate the theory. The matching of the individual log characteristics to a crystal detector (crystal video amplification) and designing matched pair (dual channel) amplifiers is discussed. (Author)
