Abstract : Antheraea eucalypti (moth) cells were grown in suspension in a medium containing 10% fetal bovine serum but no insect hemolymph. Cultures were grown in 25-ml quantities of medium in 250-ml plastic tissue culture flasks at 26 to 28 C on a rotary shaker operating at 60 rpm and were fed by changing the medium completely at weekly intervals. Cell populations of 2,200,000 per ml were obtained in 23 days from an inoculum of 120,000 cells per ml. Growth was readily measured by counting cells in a hemocytometer. (Author)
