Abstract : The purpose of this contract is the investigation of the use of germanium web for large area TPV cells. During this report period, N-type germanium web of resistivities between 0.05 and 1.0 ohm-cm was grown. Cells were fabricated on web as well as on slices from a Czochralski crystal; both diffused and alloyed junctions were made. Contacts were evaporated silver-titanium; anti-reflection coatings, applied to some cells, were evaporated SiO. Cells were evaluated under a carbon arc solar simulator and under tungsten light; in these tests the diffused-junction cells were superior to the alloyed-junction cells. A 1400 C radiation source for TPV cell testing is nearly complete. (Author)
