Abstract : This report containing two parts describes a joint U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office-Fleet Numerical Weather Facility effort initiated in June 1966. This effort attempts to develop an automated Synoptic Oceanographic Data Assimilation System (SODAS) which includes (1) automatic data processing (ADP) for BATHY-type data available on communication circuits, (2) oceanographic environmental data quality-quantity control report, and (3) an objective verification and comparison scheme for some NAVOCEANO and FNWF operational oceanographic environmental products. Included in Part 2 is a progress report to 1 September 1966 describing operationally available ADP and verification products resulting from SODAS. A typical format for periodic quality-quantity reports is also included in Part 2. (Author)
