Abstract : This report describes the results achieved to date as part of a research and development program that will lead to devices that provide a dispersion-less, loss-less, electronically controllable real time delay of microwave signals. The delay mechanism will involve the conversion of the electromagnetic energy to be delayed into magnetoelastic energy. Insertion loss measurements have been made on magetoelastic waves, generated by means of fine wires and thin metal strips along the end surface. Delay measurements have been made on magnetoelastic waves in YIG rod surrounded by polycrystalline YIG sleeves. The problem of focusing and defocusing of the spin waves has been investigated. It was found that the field profile for dispersion-less delay is focusing. (Author)
