Abstract : Three types of extended dynamic range developers have been formulated that enable conventional black and white film to record scene information over a wide exposure range, or a wide brightness range, with minimum loss of information from lens and film flare. On the panchromatic films studied, the greatest exposure latitude and the highest figures of merit were obtained when the films were exposed to blue light. For white-light exposure, the extended range effect is almost as pronounced as for the blue-light exposure, but the effect is descreased in yellow and red light.
