Abstract : One PCM commutator was subjected to Flight Proof Testing with no visible mechanical damage. The Flight Proof Test consisted of the following tests along each direction of the three major mutually perpendicular axes; a nominal 100g 8.6ms terminal peak saw-tooth shock; a 3-minute, 18g centrifuge test; and a 22.5g 10ms terminal peak saw-tooth shock. The Flight Proof Test also included a 2-minute 13 grms multilevel random vibration test along each direction of the three major mutually perpendicular axes and a 1-hour, 100F, 200,000-foot altitude test. Six PCM commutators were subjected to a 2-minute, 6.5grms, multilevel random vibration Acceptance Test along each of the three mutually perpendicular axes. There were no visible mechanical failures in five of the commutators. A power supply component failed in one commutator. However, this commutator was retested after the power supply had been repaired and no visible mechanical damages were detected.
