Abstract : During operation of our homogeneous AGN-201 nuclear reactor, gas is produced in the reactor core as a result of the irradiation of the polyethylene moderator. This reactor core gas has been analysed and shown to be mainly hydrogen, approximately 50 percent by volume. The remaining constituents are methane, ethane, ethylene, and other light saturated, unsaturated, and cyclic hydrocarbons. Oxygen, carbon dioxide, and carbon monoxide detected in these gases are directly attributed to the impurities of the nitrogen gas used to pressurize the reactor. Simultaneous activity analyses have demonstrated the existence of xenon and krypton radionuclides in the effluent gases. The origin of some portions of the activity is yet undetermined. (Author)
