Abstract : A program is being conducted to investigate, analytically and experimentally, changes in stagnation pressure of a condensing fluid moving at high subsonic or supersonic velocities. Analytical studies completed to date indicate that, under certain heat transfer and flow conditions, a rise in stagnation pressure is predicted. This analysis has included homogeneous and nonhomogeneous flow models. Calculations of stagnation conditions (pressure, temperature, and quality) have been performed for water and potassium as the flowing fluid. Analysis has been made of the change in stream properties of a two-phase mixture across a normal shock. An apparatus has been designed and constructed to perform experiments for evaluating the changes in stagnation pressure predicted by the theory. Installation and shakedown of this equipment has been completed. (Author)
