Abstract : Preliminary analyses of several potential design concepts of a single axis Fluidic digital velocity meter were performed, and the most promising of these was designed in detail. A laboratory model for the velocity meter was built, tested, and found to fulfill the prescribed requirements. An analysis of potential errors from the use of an air bearing is included. The concept chosen for the detailed design consists of a seismic mass which reacts to an input acceleration along a single axis. The motion of the mass is restricted by two flapper valve pressure pads. A differential pressure proportional to acceleration is developed. This signal is deleivered to two pressure controlled oscillators whose frequencies are directly proportional to the applied pressures. The resulting difference frequency is proportional to the acceleration and is therefore suitable for digital integration to provide a velocity signal. (Author)
