Abstract : The report describes the work done on a program to demonstrate the feasibility of an electronic scanning antenna technique for TACAN ground stations. During the first six months of this program the breadboard model of a TACAN antenna system was built. During the second six months experimental data was recorded to demonstrate the feasibility of the technique. The antenna system consists of two parts: the microwave assembly and the electronic control assembly. The preliminary design of a high-power modulator and a seven-way power divider were developed to demonstrate r-f power handling capabilities. Static and dynamic radiation patterns were recorded to measure the performance characteristics of the breadboard antenna in sufficient detail to demonstrate the technique feasibility. Further work was done to obtain greater understanding of the antenna system behavior. Comparison of the measured performance with realistic computer simulation established the validity of computer analysis. (Author)
