Abstract : PBI fabric retains approximately 75% of its 70 deg F tensile strength at the melting temperature of nylon and over 50% at 700 deg F in air. Long-term vacuum exposures have only a small effect on the tensile properties of PBI fabric. The tensile properties of the fabric at elevated temperatures in vacuum are approximately the same as those exhibited in air. Application of carboxyphenylpolysiloxane finish to PBI fabric significantly in air and at 70 deg F after long-term, high-temperature exposure in air.
