Abstract : To compare the relative dispersibilities of powdered agents, a new device, the Cyclone grinder, that can pulverize and disperse powdered materials in tablet form was developed and tested for its effectiveness and reproducibility. The grinder was tested in a fallout chamber. A known weight of a tableted powder, aspirin, saccharin, or Sucaryl, was placed in the device. A jet of compressed air pulverized the powder and at the same time dispersed it in the chamber. By means of 32 aluminum foils and eight wooden paddles placed on the floor of the chamber (sampling procedure), the weight of the powder deposited on the floor after 10 min and after 20 hr could be measured. The percentage of material that was still airborne after 10 min for saccharin, aspirin, and Sucaryl was measured.
