Abstract : A theoretical analysis of the two-dimensional water impact of a circular cylinder, presented in a previous report, has been refined and coded for a CDC 1604 digital computer. Important features of the model are: inclusion of the finite air density, incompressibility of the air and water, retention of the full nonlinear free-surface conditions, and the use of continuous vortex sheets to represent the free surface and its image inside the cylinder. Initial numerical results appear to be quite reasonable, with excellent agreement obtained for the check case of a circular cylinder approaching a rigid wall. Although it appears that the numerical procedure is stable as the number of free surface collocation points is increased and the time increments are refined, this is not yet certain. (Author)
