Abstract : The purpose of the program is to study properties of zirconia-based electrolyte cells consisting of thin film or plate electrolytes which have potential application for operation at lower temperature than current fuel cells of this type. In this progress report we present experimental data on current-potential measurements of the oxygen electrode. It was found that silver is much superior to platinum as an electrode material at the order of 600C with respect to polarization behavior, but that it is subject to migration through the solid electrolyte from the positive to the negative electrode, eventually shorting the cell.
