Abstract : The purpose of this investigation is to make a detailed study of all of the known solutions for the plane Couette flow and to propose a new solution based upon Truesdell's equations. Only a particular and essentially restricted solution of the latter has been found, but it is of some interest in that it points up a new dimensionless parameter which seems significant in plane Couette flow and which is used by Truesdell for a somewhat different case.
