Abstract : This is the third of the three volumes of the Analytical Manual of the QUICK System, and is concerned with the Simulation Subsystem, hereafter referred to as the Simulator. Volume I treats the Data Input and Output Subsystems, and Volume II treats the Plan Generation Subsystem. This volume describes the methodology and techniques used by the QUICK Simulator, its logical program flow, and its data requirements in sufficient detail for the concepts involved to be understandable to analysts who are not programmers. As simulated by QUICK, a general war consists of many discrete events spread over time. The Simulator divides these many events into 18 types (e.g., missile launch and bomber refuel). For each event type, a corresponding computer subroutine calculates the outcome. Thus, when a bomber refuels in the game, the refuel subroutine determines if the refueling is successful. The 18 events are discussed in general terms in Section II; Section III describes their subroutines in detail. Section IV describes the data employed in the Simulator.
