Abstract : A Markov Model is developed for a three-echelon supply system consisting of submarines, submarine tenders, and stock points. Each echelon is represented by a transition matrix describing the supply capability at that echelon. Matrix multiplication yields the submarine state at the start of each patrol. The submarine state is combined with a readiness function to produce the expected readiness on each patrol. Submarine readiness is thereby related to supply system characteristics, including the allocated replenishment budget for the system of stock points. (Author)
