Abstract : Tests were made to determine Poisson's ratio for cold worked 301 and 301N stainless steel of .016 gage thickness at -320F and +600F. Poisson's ratio is essentially constant, within the proportional limit, for the cold worked stainless steels, both in the longitudinal and transverse direction. Stressing the material in the transverse direction of rolling yields a higher Poisson's ratio than for the stainless steel stressed longitudinal to the direction of rolling. At -320F and +600F, there is no significant difference in Poisson's ratio due to the degree of cold work. (Author)
