Abstract : The results of an investigation into the suitability of using biological materials and methods for camouflage and tonedown are presented. Lichens, algae, mosses and liverworts were studied with respect to growth, survivability and spectral reflectance properties. The data of a limited investigation of extracted lichen pigments and chlorophyll are also included. Various kinds of natural and synthetic fiber, cloths, mats and other materials were investigated for use as support membranes and mulches. Different configurations of experimental mats were fabricated and tested for both growth support and spectral reflectance properties. (Author)
