Abstract : This report presents a detailed description of a simulation which has been set up on the IBM 704 computer for use in studying the flight performance of a ballistic missile from launch to impact. The digital program consists of a series of separately coded subroutines or basic building blocks which are linked together by a driver routine. It is therefore possible to obtain simulations with varying degrees of complexity by choosing different combinations of the available subroutines. The basic program consists of a generalized five-stage simulation of powered flight, together with a calculation of free fall from cutoff to atmospheric re-entry and impact. Several guidance subroutines have been set up for use with the basic program if desired. Additional subroutines such as the servo tilt program generator, the detailed propulsion blocks, and the single impact or hit program are also available as options. (Author)
