Abstract : The effects of vibration on free convection from cylinders in liquids were investigated. Cylinders .050 to .752 inches in diameter were tested in water and Humble Therm 500 at frequencies from 1200 to 6400 cpm and temperature differences from 20F to 50F. Results of tests in water compared favorably with earlier studies conducted in air and water. Results of tests in Humble Therm 500 indicated a moderate increase in heat transfer coefficient for increases in vibration intensity and correlated well with the McAdams forced convection curve. Results are graphed in terms of non-dimensional parameters. (Author)
