Abstract : An investigation was conducted to determine the effect of various thicknesses of buoyant Polyethylene foam spall covers, over Boron Carbide armor plates, on ballistic and spall retention. The conclusions drawn were that no adverse effect on ballistics is apparent due to the addition of the buoyant foam spall materials and the containment of spall is improved in most cases with the addition of the foam material.
