Abstract : Simultaneous and continuous recording of dissolved oxygen pressure and oxidation reduction potential (ORP, ROP) in bacterial cultures clearly show ORP dependence on O2. The same results were obtained in buffer solutions. Deaeration with nitrogen indicates a more negative potential of the platinum cathode, whereas aeration with oxygen give a more positive one. In the measuring range of polarographic oxygen determination variations at high pressure have a small, at low pressure a greater influence on the ORP. It is assumed that bacterial cultures remove dissolved oxygen even below the polarographic measuring range. (Author)
