Abstract : The state properties of pressure and temperature and the wave and particle velocities have been calculated for the one-dimensional interaction of a shock with an air-helium interface and a nearby rigid boundary. The gases were assumed to be perfect and initially at equal temperature and pressure. The results show that the moving gases behind the incident shock are brought to rest in a series of steps over a finite interval of time which decreases with increasing incident shock Mach number.
