Abstract : In order to assess the ratio of endogenous catecholamines on the liberation of fatty acids during fasting, Regitine was administered intravenously to a group of obese women after respective fasts of 36 and 60 hours, and its influence on the nonesterified fatty acid (NEFK) level as compared with a placebo was investigated. After Regitine, a statistically significant rise of NEFK was recorded which was obvious even after eliminating the effect of the placebo. The influence of Regitine itself on the NEFK levels cannot be ruled out; therefore, the part played by catecholamines in lipomobilization during starvation cannot be defined.
