Abstract : High-frequency power for fluorescent lighting offers many advantages over the standard 60-Hertz frequency, such as reduced operating cost, less heat per lumen and, from 400 Hertz to about 5 kHz, less radio frequency interference. Economic factors, however, require evaluation since it may take several years to recover the cost of changing over from standard frequency to high frequency even with small, relatively low cost converters. When a 400-Hertz power supply with sufficient capacity is available, the benefits of high frequency can be obtained with much less initial investment. (Author)
