Abstract : The thesis presents a comparative study of frequency domain and state variable (time domain) methods for the solution of linear time varying systems. Stability criteria for linear feedback systems, where the time variation is limited to the feedback loop, are considered. In comparing state variable and frequency domain solutions, the conclusion is reached that state variable methods are more useful. Experimental computer results are presented which indicate that, for the feedback system considered, sufficient conditions for stability can be refined by considering the system to be dual mode (a stable mode and an unstable mode), and by considering which mode predominates.
