Abstract : A mathematical model of a vehicle being brought to rest in such a manner as to cause a skid is devised and simulated on an analog computer. This model includes the effects of the brake line pressure upon the braking of the vehicle and also the effects of the coefficients of friction between the tire and road surface and between the brake shoe and brake drum. Several controls to correct for the occurrence of a skid are simulated on the analog computer and a detailed analysis of the braking system under the influence of each control is performed. Lastly, a scheme for implementing the control which minimizes the stop time and the degree of skid is presented. (Author)
