Abstract : The development of the three dimensional, laminar velocity profile in the entrance length of a rectangular duct is investigated. The solution to this hydrodynamic problem is obtained from the full, incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and the continuity equation, in finite difference form, on the digital computer employing the computational method of Chorin. The solution yields the hydrodynamic velocities U, V, and W and the friction factor as a function of the distance from the entrance. (Author)
