Abstract : It is shown that, neglecting advection, the vertical heat exchange between the earth's surface and the air is governed by turbulent air motion, and the heat transferred to the higher layers of the ground atmosphere is a function of a constant called the climatic turbulence coefficient K(h), for which an equation is derived. A graphic and analytic procedure is described for the determination of parameters. This method is convenient in practical use and presents no major difficulties. Trial measurements were made on cloudless days in July and August and on clear and overcast days with middle and high clouds. (Author)
