Abstract : The feasibility of incorporation of photochromic and thermochromic compounds in addition to other dyes in reinforced plastics as a means of monitoring the cure process in reinforced plastic matrix materials was established. These compounds, when incorporated in a resin matrix, show changes in color, absorbance, transmittance, or reflectance, dependent upon the time and temperatures history of the cure cycle. The resins investigated were a heat cured epoxy system, and an asbestos filled phenolic compound. (Author, modified-PL).
