Abstract : The energy dependence of the cross section of charge transfer during collisions of negative ions was investigated. The range of the energy of primary ions, formed by an electron collision, varied from several tenths of an eV to about 20 eV. All the reactions that were investigated showed relatively large cross sections at low energies which decreased with increasing energy. In analogy to the apparent transfer of charge of positive ions, the transfer of charge of negative ions at low energies could, on the basis of the polarizability and on the permanent dipole moment of the molecules that is eventually present, be referred back to the coulomb-dipole transfer effects.
