Abstract : The investigation of the mechanism of anodic hydrocarbon oxidation involves the application of a variety of pulses and ac methods with the intention of assigning an aperiodic circuit from electrode impedance analysis. The applicability of techniques and methods of analysis is being surveyed using the hydrogen adsorption reaction on smooth platinum as a model. In order to slow down, in a controlled manner, the kinetics of the hydrogen adsorption reaction to better define the limits of applicability of the techniques, the low temperature behavior of this reaction was studied. Measurements were carried out in the range of temperatures from -60C to +30C using as electrolyte, 9.5 N sulfuric acid. Exploratory triangular sweeps were studied in this range of temperatures and potentiostatic transients were determined in the range of potential of hydrogen adsorption and in the double layer capacity region.
